Retail Pro® Tips

Tech Tip: IBM SurePOS— Cleaning the display and printer

The following are instructions from IBM on how to clean the display and printer.

Cleaning the Display

Caution: Use extreme care when cleaning the touch panel surface. Under no circumstances should any product be used that contains ammonia or chloride. These products can attack the plastic components and can cause corrosion of electronic parts.

Perform the following procedure to clean the display:

  1. Power off the system.
  2. Gently wipe the display with a soft, dry cloth to remove loose particles.

Gently wipe the glass surface of the display with a non-abrasive agent, such as isopropyl alcohol or a mild liquid glass cleaner.

Notes:

  • Apply the alcohol or glass cleaner to the cloth and then wipe the screen rather than spraying the cleaner on the screen and then wiping.
  • Make sure that the display is dry before powering on the unit.
Cleaning the Printer

Cleaning the exterior

Perform the following procedure to clean the exterior of the printer:

  1. Power off the system unit.
  2. Wipe the plastic cover with a clean cloth moistened either with water or with a small amount of liquid soap and water. When extensive cleaning is required, use a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

Cleaning the print head

When the quality of printing deteriorates on a thermal printer, perform the following procedure to clean the print head:

  • Power off the system unit.
  • Using a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol, wipe the print head several times on the print line and on the surrounding area.
  • Wipe off any residual alcohol with a clean, dry, non-abrasive cloth.
