Customer Spotlight: dresscode

Many J.D. Associates’ clients are featured in the August 2005 issue of Boston magazine. This “Best of…” issue, chose dresscode, located in Andover, MA as the best women’s clothing store north of Boston.
Amy Finegold, owner and brain-power behind this venture, found a niche that needed filling—dresscode answered that need. With “amazing support” from her husband and family, she found the timing was right, the space was open and she was ready to share her contagious excitement. Opening day was September 2004.
Boston magazine says, “Amy Finegold doesn’t try to do it all. Instead of stocking an overwhelming, impenetrable number of trendy wares—the easy way out these days— she has a well-edited grouping of sophisticated pieces.” She describes her clients as young, fashion-forward moms who know what they need for style, comfort, quality and price.
When Amy makes buying decisions, she listens to her customers, then buys items that she absolutely loves. This way, she knows she can stand proudly behind everything in the store. Amy describes the shop as a great place for mothers and daughters. Girls as young as 13 love to come in and learn about style. Even if all they buy is a t-shirt, they have a fun shopping experience. Her target market extends to women in their 70’s; every woman loves “cool clothes.”
Good product, good people and good companies for support are the cornerstone of her success. As a young mother, Amy relies on Maryse to run the store when she can’t be there. “Maryse understands the business, knows what shoppers want and is devoted to the success of dresscode.”
This year her daughter, Ava, turned two and the store is celebrating its First Anniversary. “It’s been a great year, way beyond all my expectations and hopes,” she said. “I just think that when you love what you do it makes a difference.” By relying on the fundamentals, she has found a “simple way to make people happy.”
