POSTA identifies over forty-five “variances” in point of sale transactions as they are received. These variances range from indications of likely blatant fraud to transactions that may, when cumulated, indicate a need for training or follow-up.

Examples of variances:

• Credit Card Manually Entered
• Employee Uses More than Two Credit Cards, or Same Credit Card for Different Customers
• No Sales (anytime the cash drawer opens without a key)
• Transactions Aborted
• Associate Ringing His/Her Own Transaction
